Near Mt. Carbine, Cape York Peninsula, Queensland

Trees (Angiosperms) in tropics/subtropics tend to higher orders of branching (divarication) than those in temperate regions.
Tree skeleton - probably a eucalypt, showing "order of branching" which is a significant life form reflecting different environments. Beginning at the primary axis, the trunk, as zero, it is 3-4 in this example, although at least another order has probably been lost with shedding of twigs.
