This species is a large canopy tree in complex forests, especially on deep fertile soils from basic volcanic rocks and alluvial soils along rivers and streams draining these areas all along the Great Dividing Range from Cape York to the central coast of New South Wales. It also occurs in Papua New Guinea and the New Hebrides. See references under Images 9-1 and 9-2.
