This species is restricted to steep rock outcrops in North Queensland Wet Tropics but occurs throughout Australia in similar habitats, displaying remarkable disjunct distribution patterns. The plants have a "spinifex grass" like appearance, and change from green to bright orange in the dry season. Other Borya species occur on the ancient Yilgarn Block granites of South West Western Australia. See references under Image 4-42.
