Depletion by logging, annual scorching of forest edges by fires from nearby sugar-cane farms lit before harvesting, and dry periods with delayed summer "wet season": the result is the unusual spectacle of rainforest "burning" in a moderately perhumid tropical lowland zone with over 4000 mm average annual rainfall.
