Land degradation followed clearing of steep slopes of their rainforest and wet sclerophyll vegetation. Restoration of tree cover on the upper catchments is urgent. Plantation forestry with Hoop Pines and eucalypts (e.g. E. grandis, E. microcorys) is an option in some areas. Mixed species plantings using local rainforest trees, especially on stream banks is the long term land rehabilitation option.
Cleared complex notophyll vine forests on soils from phyllite and basalt.
