These lands were originally cleared for dairying, then used for cattle fattening for beef production. Economic pressure leads to abandonment of such enterprises, followed by weed invasion. These lands are first class for plantation forestry and present (1998) restructuring of the dairy industry on the Atherton Tablelands suggests timber plantations as future land use.
