Re-establishment of trees in catchments to control soil water flows and soil water salinity concentrations is an urgent priority in South West Western Australia and elsewhere, e.g. Murray-Darling. Plantation forestry is a site specific option, but protection of natural vegetation remnants and re-establishment of natural vegetation is a more effective and relevant strategy.
