Disjunct stands of New England Blackbutt occur on acid rocks on cool wet uplands as far north as Eungella Range inland from Mackay. Associated species include Pink Bloodwood (Eucalyptus intermedia) and Turpentine (Syncarpia Glomulifera) and Acacia irrorata).
