Note leaf litter completely covers the floor of the forest. Closed nutrient cycling is vital to survival of these forests. Disturbance followed by fire triggers catastrophic nutrient loss and capture of the site by sclerophyll vegetation, especially Acacia spp. See also comments under Images 12-56, 4-60, 3-54, 3-55.
