Len Webb Ecological Images Collection
View looking northeast from "Cardwell Gap" ("Gateway to the humid tropics of North Queensland") on the old Bruce Highway north of Ingham, with panorama of estuary of Herbert River with mangroves (up to 30 species, decreases abruptly further south), coastal plain with stunted paper-bark forest and tall woodland depending on soil aeration (drainage), and the rainforest-clad mountains of Hinchinbrook Island in the background. This is/was an area of great biogeographical significance and beauty in its pristine state, now threatened by "eco-courism" physical and biological developments.
