Support for teaching

Technology support in teaching spaces

  • Booking of audiovisual (AV) equipment (e.g. for conferences)

What is the service?

We provide technology support to academic staff using teaching spaces at Griffith University. We provide:

  • Audiovisual equipment in University lecture theatres and seminar rooms
  • Lecture recording equipment in University lecture theatres
  • Videoconference equipment in University lecture theatres and seminar rooms
  • Wireless microphones for use by teaching staff in University lecture theatres

Not all lecture theatres have lecture recording or videoconferencing equipment installed. A current list of lecture capture enabled venues is published on the lecture capture website; a list of lecture theatres and seminar rooms with videoconferencing capacity is published in the videoconferencing website.

Can I use the service?
The service is available to all Griffith University teaching staff.
How do I access this service?

To book a videoconference or lecture recording, you first need to book a room through Room Bookings. You then need to book your Lecture recording or videoconference.

To book audiovisual equipment or a wireless mike, please use the AV booking form on the Audiovisual website.

In case of an emergency, please use the on-site support number, extention 56464 for assistance. Please note that this service is only available during teaching hours in semester.

What can I expect?

We will respond within 10 minutes to a support request from a teaching space 95% of the time.

We will ensure that AV failure rates are less than 5% of total lectures using AV equipment.

We will ensure that videoconferencing; failure rates are less than 2% of total lectures using videoconferencing equipment.

We proactively seek your feedback and aim to have a greater than 85% satisfaction with our services.

Do I need to pay?

There is no charge associated with using these services in University teaching spaces that are openly available to all Griffith staff and students.

There are costs associated with hiring audiovisual equipment and with the provision of audiovisual support outside normal teaching hours or for extended periods. These costs are listed on the Audiovisual website. Support in dedicated teaching spaces will also incur a cost and is usually managed through a Service Level Agreement.

There are costs associated with setting up and supporting videoconferences and these costs are listed on the Videoconferencing website.

Details of applicable charges are also published in the University’s Policy Library.

What is the service?

We can help you develop online teaching resources for deployment through Learning@Griffith. We provide expertise in:

  • Educational design
  • Graphic design
  • Multimedia design
  • Application development

Specialist audio and video resources can also be produced to further enhance teaching and in support of grant applications.

We will also reproduce and distribute print-based learning resources and digitise course readings for inclusion in Learning@Griffith.

We offer a centralised assignment handling service for all Griffith courses as well as a multiple choice exam scanning service for teaching staff.

Can I use the service?
These services are available to all Griffith staff.
How do I access this service?

Academics may discuss resource development options with their Group BLA (Blended Learning Advisor) or via an INS (Learning and Teaching) educational designer specific to your Academic Group.

You can request electronic readings to be added to your course via Learning @Griffith or by completing the relevant online form. Print readings can be requested by completing the online Course Specification Sheet. Information on how to complete these processes is available from the Learning Material Distribution website.

You can request the centralised assignment handing service for your course by providing assessment information (PDF 315k) in the Course Outline system at the start of semester.

The Remote Assignment service will allow your students to submit their assignments through Learning@Griffith. Assignments will be printed and delivered to you for marking. You can request this service through Learning@Griffith.

You can request the Exam Scanning service by completing the OMR Scanning Submission form (PDF 105k).

What can I expect?

Timing and turnaround on resource development projects vary and are determined via scoping and cost-estimates provided to you (the client) for approval prior to initiation of the project.

Print-based learning resources are reproduced and delivered to staff and students prior to the start of each semester provided the request is received at least three weeks in advance of the start of semester.

Readings are digitised and available via Learning@Griffith within 6 working days of receipt of request 95% of the time.

All resources are checked for Copyright Compliance.

Assignments will be delivered within 2 working days of receipt of assignment 95% of the time.

Multiple choice exams will be scanned within 3 working days of receipt of the forms.

We proactively seek your feedback and aim to have a greater than 85% satisfaction with our services.

Do I need to pay?

All Academic Groups can receive free resource development as prioritised via the Annual INS (Learning and Teaching) / Group Work-Plan Process. For more information please contact your relevant Group BLA (Blended Learning Advisor) or Dean (Learning and Teaching).

All other ad-hoc development services (Learning and Teaching Grants and Fee-for-service) are provided to Griffith staff at a cost-recovery charge rate.

There are no charges associated with the formatting of printed-based learning resources or the digitisation of course readings.

There is a cost recovery charge for:

  • Printing of learning resources
  • Postage costs for distribution to students studying off campus

Assignments are delivered to teaching staff at no charge.

Multiple-choice exam scanning costs are as follows:

  • $0.25 cents per sheet scanned
  • $0.10 cents per page printed
