Most people use food labels when they buy processed foods. However, many consumers don't realise that the content of food labels is governed by a set of regulations set out in the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code. The details of this code are under constant review under the auspices of Food Standards Australia New Zealand. Part of the review process is open to consumer participation, and a small number of dedicated volunteers participate alongside industry to align regulations with the needs and values of the Australian community. This work aims to understand and communicate the processes underlying food regulations development in Australia.
