The effects of parental divorce, the parent-child relationship, and inter-parental conflict on children's relationship expectations

Description

This research is investigating children's relationships in their families and at school, with a particular focus on how divorce impacts on children's relationships. Three studies will be conducted on primary school children aged 9 to 12 years. Study 1 will consist of two phases and will develop a new measure of children's optimistic and pessimistic expectations of relationships. Study 2 will validate the new measure. Study 3 will compare the relationship expectations of children from intact and divorced families and whether this difference can be better explained by inter-parental conflict and dimensions of the parent-child relationship.
