Development and Validation of General Self-regulation Measure: The effect of self-regulation on performance in the workplace
Description
This research examines the most influential motivational and self-regulation theories together with their implicated self-regulation strategies in order to develop a comprehensive measure of self-regulation. This measure will then be validated and tested in a goal-based model of self-regulation in relation to job performance. Understanding the link between self-regulation and performance is critical to ongoing improvement in job performance. The first implication of this research is that the newly developed measure may be used as a component of performance appraisal. The subscales in the measure will provide information to determine employee needs related to increasing their performance. Second, improving employee performance through effective use of self-regulation strategies may provide a cost-effective ways to increase overall company productivity. Third, effective uses of self-regulation strategies promote positive affect thereby promoting more harmonious work environment. Lastly, these strategies may be applied to future motivation training to increase their effects from being transient.
