Undergraduate student research
Strengthening the Undergraduate Student Research Culture
The School of Psychology is seeking to facilitate the involvement of undergraduate students in the process of research and to enhance contact between staff and students. To achieve these goals the School of Psychology has implemented three programmes, which will be conducted at both Mt Gravatt and Gold Coast Campuses. This initiative is being conducted under the leadership of A/Prof Alf Lizzio. Please contact A/Prof Alf Lizzio at A.Lizzio@griffith.edu.au
Research Interest Groups
Research Interest Groups are being conducted to provide students who have an interest in a particular area of psychology the chance to explore the area further with other undergraduate students, postgraduate students, and staff. The content of each Research Interest Groups will differ depending on the research area; however some proposed activities include in-depth discussions of the research area, critiques of key research papers, and excursions to research laboratories. Participation in a Research Interest Groups is open to all undergraduate students and no prior knowledge of the research area is necessary. Please refer to notice boards and learning@griffith for schedules of Research Interest Groups meetings and events.
For additional information regarding the Research Interest Groups for the Mt Gravatt campus please contact Lauren Shaw at Lauren.Shaw@griffith.edu.au and for the Gold Coast campus please contact Kaya Beinke at K.Beinke@griffith.edu.au
Internship Programme
The purpose of the Psychology Undergraduate Internship Program is to provide 2nd and 3rd year undergraduate students with the opportunity to participate in more ‘hands on’ experience in real world research settings. The internship program will enhance the learning experiences of undergraduate students by providing a meaningful link between coursework and applied research work. An internship will be a specified period of supervised research experience that will allow students to gain experience in different fields of psychology, explore career options, increase their professional skills and develop professional relationships with staff. For example, an internship could involve a student working in a research lab with staff and postgraduate students, designing and running experiments, collecting or coding data and completing brief literature reviews in a specified research area. Please refer to notice boards and learning@griffith for information regarding upcoming internships.
For additional information regarding the internship Programme please contact Michelle McDowell for the Mt Gravatt campus at M.McDowell@griffith.edu.au or Garry Power for the Gold Coast campus at G.Power@griffith.edu.au
Undergraduate Student Journal
An Undergraduate Student Journal will be launched in 2008. There are two key aims of the journal; a) to exhibit samples of high quality work produced by undergraduate students and b) to promote the research work being conducted by staff and postgraduate students in the School of Psychology. Each issue of the journal will contain samples of high quality essays that have been submitted by 2nd and 3rd year psychology students and profiles of research projects being conducted by staff, postgraduate students, and honours students.
For additional information regarding the undergraduate student journal, please contact Amanda Biggs at A.Biggs@griffith.edu.au
