Laboratory facilities
The biomechanics laboratory in the School of Physiotherapy and Exercise Science features state of the art facilities which enable our researchers to study kinematic, kinetic, and electromyographical characteristics of human movement. Testing is typically performed within the 130 m2 laboratory. Motion studies that investigate walking or running can utilise a 30 m walkway and a 4.2 x 1.6 m wooden framed treadmill. The laboratory also contains an array of Vicon MX 3D motion analysis cameras mounted on rails around the ceiling. This allows our lab to perform detailed 3D studies of movements ranging from walking, falls or tennis and gold swings. Some of our other major equipment includes wireless EMG sensors, 3D accelerometers, electromagnetic motion trackers and portable dataloggers and ultrasound scanners.
