Clinical education

Physiotherapy students in laboratory demonstration

In the complex ever-changing world of health care there is a need to ensure students acquire the knowledge, capacities and professional skills required for their chosen profession. Within the physiotherapy curriculum at Griffith University, clinical education is an integral part of producing graduates who are well-equipped to continue learning and advancing their skills throughout their careers.

Early experience with patient management helps students organise their knowledge base, develop, refine clinical reasoning and diagnostic skills, and expand the clinical situations where their knowledge is applicable. In the clinical situation, students become the architect of their own learning, as knowledge networks are constantly being adapted and upgraded as a result of new clinical experiences.

Physiotherapy programs at Griffith University offer an integrated model of clinical education where students learn the theoretical background knowledge, reasoning skills and techniques in a dynamic classroom setting. Immediately following this teaching, the students complete a clinically based placement where this knowledge and skills can be integrated into practice within authentic clinical environments.
