Biography
After completing my training to become a Registered Nurse in 1992, I specialised in paediatric nursing. Once I completed my qualification as a midwife I worked in the public health sector in Special Care Nursery and through all areas of the childbirth continuum for 8 years. My frustration with the fragmented medicalised care women received in most maternity services motivated me to establish a private midwifery practice called ‘Nurture’ in Toowoomba.
For the past 8 years I have provided continuity of care to women and their families as their primary care provider for birth either at home or in the hospital. The women and the continuity of care experience with them, has enriched my career as a midwife and a mother. I have now found my way back to my other passion in life which is teaching. By applying the same principles to teaching students that I have applied to birthing women of trust, listening and sharing of knowledge, I believe I can engage with students in a way that helps them learn and motivates them to be the best they can be. For myself, I am again inspired as I embark on learning how to undertake research.
