Biography
Professor Howes is the Professor of Pharmacology and Therapeutics at Griffith University since the commencement of the School of Medicine in 2004, having come from the University of New South Wales where he was Professor of Medicine, Pharmacology and Physiology for 12 years. Prior to that he was at the Austin Hospital where he did his undergraduate and postgraduate training and completed his PhD. He spent 2 years of this time as an NHMRC Neil Hamilton Fairly Fellowship recipient at the University of Glasgow in 1984 and 1985. He is listed in Who's Who in Australia and Who's Who in the World for contributions to medical research and education. Professor Howes has also supervised a number of postgraduate students.

- Clinical trials in cardiovascular medicine
- Investigator initiated research in vascular function in humans including studies of pharmacological cardiovascular responsiveness
- Studies of vascular function in Type 2 diabetes and in heart failure
- Studies of vascular compliance
