Biography
Dr Erika Turkstra is a Senior Lecturer, Health Technology Assessment at the School of Medicine, Griffith University since January 2009. Since 2006, Dr Turkstra has been evaluating submissions to the Pharmaceutical Benefits Advisory Committee (PBAC) for medicines considered for listing on the Australian Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS). Dr Turkstra has also performed systematic reviews on the clinical and economic effectiveness of various pharmaceuticals, and contributed to postgraduate teaching in pharmaco-economics.
After finishing a PhD in renal physiology and before moving into the area of Health Technology Assessment, Erika worked for six years as a Senior Toxicologist in government agencies in the Netherlands and Australia. Her main tasks were the evaluation of public health and safety risks of foods, food ingredients, contaminants and pesticides.
