Biography

Dr Jackson graduated from undergraduate medicine at University of New South Wales (1987-1991). His internship and basic surgical training were spent at St Vincent's Hospital, Sydney. Advanced General Surgical training followed at St Vincent's, St George and Liverpool Hospitals resulting in the award of FRACS in 2000. He then spent 3 years at St Mary's Hospital in London working clinically in its renowned Regional Vascular Unit and as a researcher employed by Imperial College, London. The MD Research project he undertook examined haemodynamic factors in peripheral vascular bypass grafts. The European Society of Vascular Surgery and the Australian & New Zealand Society of Vascular Surgery awarded this research.

On return to Australia Dr Jackson completed his Vascular Surgical subspecialty training at Liverpool Hospital, NSW and St Vincent's Hospital, Melbourne - completing his FRACS (Vasc.) in 2004. He and his family wished to settle in South East Queensland so therefore, commenced as a staff specialist at the Gold Coast Hospital in February 2005 and as a Consultant Vascular Surgeon at Allamanda Private Hospital in May 2005.

Since beginning there has been a remarkable expansion in the Gold Coast Hospital Vascular service, including renal access surgery. This has included the recruitment of further surgeons, obtaining accreditation of the unit by the RACS for specialist surgical trainees, and extending the range of endovascular surgical procedures offered at the Gold Coast Hospital. Dr Jackson would like to expand the service further, establish a hospital based vascular laboratory (including AAA screening) and a research program in vascular surgery. He have been appointed to the Board of Vascular Surgery (RACS) to help develop a program of Technical Skills Assessment for Vascular Surgical Trainees.

Dr Jackson is also the convenor of the Australian & New Zealand Society of Vascular Surgery Annual Meeting (VASCULAR 2010).
