Biography
Professor Searle was appointed as Foundation Dean for the School of Medicine, Griffith University in 2004, the first female medical Dean in Australia. She has more than 20 years expertise and experience in health as a service provider (clinically active obstetrician), manager, leader, educator and researcher.
Her external roles include being an executive member of Medical Deans Australia and New Zealand, member of the Australian Medical Council and member of the Medical School Accreditation Committee of the Australian Medical Council. She was also recently Chair of the Queensland Maternal and Perinatal Quality Council.
Her research interests include a 3 phase longitudinal cohort study examining the predictive factors that impact on medical graduates workforce decisions, and Environments for Healthy Living (EfHL) – a 25 year cohort study examining the social determinants of health in populations of South East Queensland.
Professor Searle moved to Canberra in May 2009 to take up the position of Principal Medical Adviser, Workforce Education and Training, Department of Health and Ageing, but remains an Academic Title Holder with the school.
