Before you enrol
Prior to commencement of the MBBS, it is your responsibility to ensure that you can provide evidence of compliance with the professional / placement requirements as outlined on the Placement Essentials website.
Attendance
The Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery program is only offered full-time, on-campus at the Gold Coast campus.
You will need to be available to attend between 0700 and 1800 on Monday to Friday (Years 1 and 2) and during the clinical years (Years 3 and 4), your attendance may be required after hours and on weekends and public holidays.
This program starts in January and ends in December (requiring attendance between 36-44 weeks in the year).
In this program, you must maintain a full-time study load. You will be required to comply with the Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery attendance policy (contact the School of Medicine for details).
Deferral
Offers of a place in the medical program are made for a specified year only. At the discretion of the Dean, deferral of up to one year is only possible in the event of exceptional circumstances such as serious illness or misadventure which could not have been foreseen at the time of application. The School of Medicine must receive applications for deferral by 20 December in the year prior to deferral.
Transfer
Transfer of enrolment between medical schools is not possible except in very exceptional circumstances which constitutes a significant impediment to the student's continuation in the course and where only transfer to another University would alleviate this situation. Approval must be sought from the Dean of Medicine at the School that you wish to transfer into.
Special consideration
In the interest of equity and fairness to all applicants, the School of Medicine has determined that applicants who do not achieve the GPA requirements (regardless of circumstances such as illness, misadventure or disadvantage during their bachelors degree) do not meet the stated criteria for admission and, therefore, cannot be considered for entry to the program.
Students who are seeking special consideration should note that medical Schools do not have identical admission requirements. More information on the admission requirements for other medical schools can be found on the GEMSAS website.
