Students participate in clinical placements from Semester 1 of their first year, starting with "Health in the Community" placements at community groups for one morning per week.
In Semester 2 of first year, students commence their hospital placements at their allocated hospital once a week on alternating weeks and also GP placements one morning a week for five weeks in the region surrounding their allocated hospital.
Year 2 students continue with their hospital placements at their allocated hospital on alternating weeks for the year.
Year 3 and 4 students are primarily based in the hospital (approximately 20 hours timetabled plus an additional 10-15 hours in the clinical environment each week) with an emphasis on clinical skills, patient management and professional behaviour.
A student may only attend a clinical placement if all requirements have been completed prior to the placement occurring (for example - Blue Card, police check, immunisation and hospital orientation).
