The GUMSAA is a high stakes assessment of candidates’ personal and professional attributes. It is designed to test skills in a range of areas that the School considers important in entry-level students such as communication, reasoning, problem-solving, values and commitment. As we have many more applicants with excellent academic abilities than we have available places, the GUMSAA is an important component in ranking candidates in the order which we will use to make final offers of places to the MBBS.
The GUMSAA Assessors
Where possible GUMSAA assessors are recruited from each of the following groups:
- Academic staff of Griffith University
- Clinicians
- Senior year medical students
- Community representatives
Selection of applicants for GUMSAA
Applicants who meet the minimum GPA requirement will be selected for participation in the GUMSAA based on their overall GAMSAT score. The School of Medicine will annually determine the score required to receive an invitation. The GUMSAA will take place in Australia (at the Gold Coast) on September 19 2012.
Invitations to participate in the GUMSAA will be emailed to applicants in August. Applicants selected are required to confirm their acceptance by email.
The GUMSAA process and rating
The GUMSAA lasts approximately 2.5 hours and is used to rate applicants according to the stated criteria only. Each applicant has attributes rated by the individual assessors on a criterion-defined rating scale.
