Eligibility for entry

Eligibility for entry to the Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery program is determined on a combination of the following requirements:

  • completion of an accredited undergraduate bachelors degree and
  • attaining the required grade point average
  • Graduate Australian Medical School Admissions (or MCAT for international applicants resident overseas) test results that meet or exceed the minimum requirement
  • a successful performance a medical selections interview
  • there is no exemption or advanced standing offered to applicants.

The School offers 150 domestic and approximately 15 international places each year and applicants should note the following:

  • there are no domestic fee-paying places available
  • no direct applications will be accepted by the School of Medicine.

Admission criteria (Domestic Applicants)

Admission criteria for domestic applicants to the MBBS program at Griffith University include:

  • a bachelors degree with a minimum GPA of 5.00 or equivalent (calculated using the GEMSAS scale)
  • meeting the minimum required score from the Graduate Australian Medical School Admissions Test GAMSAT
  • for applicants whose senior secondary or undergraduate studies have been taken in a language other than English, meeting the minimum requirements of an approved English proficiency test
  • taking part in either the Griffith University Multi Station Admissions Assessment (GUMSAA) at Griffith University or a selections interview at another GAMSAT consortium Medical school and achieving a score no more than one standard deviation below the mean.

Admission criteria (International Applicants)

Admission criteria for International applicants to the MBBS at Griffith University include:

  • a bachelors degree with a minimum GPA equivalent of 5 on a 7 point grading scale (calculated using the GEMSAS scale). The degree must be from an accredited University and be deemed by the National Office of Overseas Skills Recognition (NOOSR) as equivalent to an Australian Bachelors degree
  • applicants resident in Australia, are required to meet or exceed the minimum score from the Graduate Australian Medical School Admissions Test GAMSAT.  The minimum accepted score for GAMSAT is 50/50/50.  Should an applicant have any section scores below 50 they will not be considered further in the application process
  • applicants resident overseas may elect to sit either GAMSAT or MCAT. The minimum accepted score for MCAT is 8/8/M/8.  Should an applicant have any section scores below this minimum they will not be considered further in the application process
  • applicants whose senior secondary or undergraduate studies have been taken in a language other than English, must meet the minimum requirements of an approved English proficiency test
  • applicants resident in Australia, must take part in the Griffith University Multi Station Admissions Assessment (GUMSAA) at Griffith University and achieve a score no more than one standard deviation below the mean
  • applicants resident overseas must take part in a structured interview held in Canada or London and also achieve a score no more than one standard deviation below the mean.
