If you are a high-achieving secondary school leaver and have the commitment to study an intensive two-year degree you will be able to progress from this program directly into the Griffith MBBS provided you achieve a GPA of at least 5.0 for the program and achieve a minimum grade of Pass in the designated course Human Skills for Medicine.

At the end of the program you will have developed knowledge and skills in modern biosciences and clinical sciences and their application to the development of medicine, biomedical research and healthcare services.

In first year you will be introduced to the basic sciences underpinning biomedical science

  • anatomy
  • chemistry
  • biochemistry
  • cell biology
  • microbiology
  • physiology
  • molecular genetics
  • psychology

In second year you will cover many of these disciplines in greater depth, including more medically-focused courses in

  • immunology
  • infectious disease
  • pharmacology
  • metabolism
  • biochemistry
  • communication
  • health
  • law and ethics
  • epidemiology

Both years will involve classes and problem-based learning, as well as practical, laboratory-based training in the biomedical sciences. In order to promote diversity in learning, you will also study a number of non-science courses from a broad range of offerings across the University.

Provisional entry into the Griffith MBBS program

Completion of the Bachelor of Medical Science program with a GPA (calculated according to Graduate Medical Admissions Centre procedures) of at least 5.0 and a minimum grade of Pass in the designated course Human Skills for Medicine will see graduates gain seamless entry into the MBBS.

The type of place in the MBBS program offered to Bachelor of Medical Science graduates who meet the requirements will be allocated according to the GPA achieved in the Bachelor of Medical Science taking into account individual preferences.

In the interests of equity and fairness to all applicants, applicants who do not achieve the GPA and/or Pass or better in the designated course Human Skills for Medicine, regardless of circumstances such as illness, misadventure or disadvantage during the Bachelor of Medical Science program will not meet the stated criteria for admission and, therefore, will not be considered for entry to the MBBS program.
