NEW PLACEMENT WEBSITE COMING IN 2012

Field Placement

The School of Human Services and Social Work offers students professional placement experience, in various services and organisations.

Students undertake their placements across a range of fields of practice, working with a diversity of populations and utilising numerous practice approaches.  We work with dozens of agencies throughout Australia every semester, including Government (federal, state, local), non-government and not-for-profits.  There is no set ‘list’ of placement organisations, although there are agencies that regularly host student placements.

Field placement courses are offered throughout our programs and placements take place across a number of weeks. For more information on field placement please refer back the Program Structure and Courses available.

Supervision on Placement

Supervision is an essential component in the development of human service and social work professionals. It is the mechanism by which workers get the opportunity to measure the effectiveness of their practice, and to further their skills, processes and analyses.

The purpose of supervision is for the practitioners (or students) to be guided, challenged and supported in their process of reflecting on their decision-making and actions and developing ways that they can be improved. It is standard practice in agencies that workers at all levels are provided with regular supervision as part of their professional development.

Each student will be visited at least once during the semester. The university-based supervisor will contact each service Field Supervisor to arrange a mutually convenient day and time. Each member of the visiting team looks forward to working with field supervisors to achieve positive results for students, organisations and the University.
The School of Human Services and Social Work strives to provide its students with high quality placements which will facilitate optimum learning for them.

If you wish to enquire about providing a placement for a student please contact Vicki Fuller, Logan Campus, on 07 3382 1033 or Hayley Pearce, Gold Coast Campus, 07 5552 9332.
