Professional Biography
John Mackay practised as a Dental Technician and Dental Prosthetist for 35 years before joining the staff of Griffith University School of Dentistry and Oral Health. He owned and managed a Dental Laboratory at Southport for the majority of that time.Between 1994 and 2003 John actively worked in a consultancy role towards the establishment of the School at the Griffith Gold Coast Campus. This involvement included a major role in budgeting, building design and tendering for equipment. He also played a major role in curriculum design and accreditation of the programs.
Since 2004, John has worked full time as Senior Lecturer Oral Health and Business Development Manager and currently as Convenor of the Masters of Dental Technology in Prosthetics. His role includes ongoing liaison and negotiation with suppliers and coordination of the School’s continuing professional development programs for dental and oral health professionals.
John is again involved in the design and development of the new School of Dentistry and Oral Health at the Griffith University Parklands Campus.
Responsibilities
- Convenor of the Masters of Dental Technology in Prosthetics including lecturing Clinical Prosthetics 1 and supervision of students’ clinical contact with patients referred for the construction of removable prosthetic appliances.

Recent Keynote Address
- 2007 Presented key note speaker at the International Oral Prosthetic Techniques Symposium, Tianjin, Peoples Republic of China
- 2007 Produced the Feasibility Study including a budget for a new Dental School for Charles Sturt University, NSW and contributed to the final proposal to the Commonwealth Government.
- 2009 Co-authored the feasibility documents including the budget for a new dental facility for Holmesglen TAFE in Victoria
