The Clinical Trials Coordinating Centre (CTCC) was established in 2011 to provide expertise and infrastructure to support clinical trials by Griffith staff, students and collaborators including the Gold Coast University Hospital. The CTCC is hosted by the Research Centre for Clinical and Community Practice Innovation.

We are predominantly an academic unit supported by competitive research grants but also support the pharmaceutical and medical device industry. We undertake phase I to IV clinical trials that test a wide range of interventions, including models of health service delivery, health education programs, pharmaceuticals and complementary therapies. The CTCC’s role can provide assistance with one aspect of a trial, or complete coordination from design to publication.
In 2011, the CTCC will initially provide a gold-standard, randomisation service for clinical trials. Additional services will be rolled out in 2012 and beyond, including:
- Automated randomisation service
- Statistical design and analysis
- Preparation of ethics committee submissions
- Preparation of TGA and FDA documents
- Phlebotomy and pathology services Research nurse services
- Study site monitoring and audits
- Clinical trial pharmacy services including placebo preparation
- Clinical trial seminars and training
Automated Randomisation Service
A fully automated randomisation service will be available for investigators to use via either telephone or web-based technology. This service will be available in beta-mode (testing) in late 2011, with full service in early 2012.
Statistical Design and Analysis
Investigators already planning a clinical trial are encouraged to undertake a brief consultation with the CTCC to ensure they have adequately planned for all required data collection. This may prevent difficulties later on trial completion. Investigators who require assistance with sample size calculations, or analysis of completed trial data are also welcome to seek assistance.
