The School of Public Health offers two Indigenous health courses that provide an introduction to Australia's Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ health today.
The courses are designed to give you a deeper understanding of what impacts on the health, social, emotional, physical and spiritual well-being of Australia's Indigenous peoples.
“I wanted to undertake research into how chronic disease could be prevented by examining a key risk factor, physical inactivity,”
Simone Nalatu
In particular, they aim to provide an understanding of how historical and cultural contexts have contributed to the ill-health of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
You will be introduced to the role of the health professional in providing appropriate health care to these peoples. You also have an opportunity to appreciate the importance of Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services and their delivery of a culturally-sensitive health service.
