Our Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) program is a four-year graduate-entry program accredited by the Australian Medical Council.
The MBBS incorporates a strong community focus with four major themes
- Doctor and patient
- Doctor and knowledge of health and illness
- Doctor and health in the community
- Doctor and law, ethics and professional practice
The program emphasises communication skills and aims to equip you with an understanding of the science of medicine.
Most of your learning will occur in small group settings such as problem-based learning tutorials and clinical skills laboratories.
Clinical placements start from Semester 1 of your first year and continue throughout the program. You will spend your final two years of study primarily in off-campus health care services such as hospitals and general practices.
From 2013, you will have the opportunity to undertake clinical training in the state-of-the-art Gold Coast University Hospital, located alongside our Gold Coast campus.
In your final-year you will also have the opportunity to undertake an overseas elective in various centres of excellence around the world.
Upon graduation you will be eligible for limited registration as a medical practitioner. Upon successfully completing a subsequent one-year internship in a hospital system, you will receive full registration by the State Medical Board.
After completing at least one further year of residency in the hospital system, you will usually be eligible to start postgraduate specialty training in the clinical environment.
