The School of Human Services and Social Work staff come from a variety of disciplinary backgrounds, committed to the principles of social justice and to excellence in education.
You will discover that staff aim to create a learning environment in which students are encouraged to achieve high academic standards alongside knowledge of real world practice in a wide range of human services fields.
The School’s commitment to excellence in teaching and research has been recognised with staff awarded a National Award for Teaching Innovation and National Learning and Teaching grants.
Common Time Program
Providing an invaluable social and academic support outside of classes and in a relaxed environment, the Common Time program is offered to assist students in developing skills and knowledge in areas such as essay writing, oral presentations, information skills and professional development. These skills are enhanced through a mixture of structured and informal academic and professional sessions which include guest speakers from the Human Service and Social Work fields. Most importantly, Common Time provides the opportunity for students to establish peer networks and consult with teaching staff in an informal supportive environment.
Work-Integrated Learning Program
The School of Human Services and Social Work incorporates Griffith's Work-Integrated Learning program into several of its programs. This program has been implemented to build upon educational activities that integrate theoretical learning with its application in the workplace. These educational activities are designed to provide a meaningful and hands-on experience in a relevant workplace application. Many of our graduates go on to work for the organisation they have been placed with for their work-integrated learning placement.
