The Graduate Certificate in Health Professional Education is offered on a part-time basis and is structured specifically to fit into the busy schedules of health professionals. This program prepares clinical, work-based and professional practice educators to provide quality educational experiences for students of the health and human services professions, resulting in better outcomes for health care clients.
Students may commence the program in semester 1 or semester 2. It can be completed over one or two years via a mix of:
- on-campus intensive face-to-face workshops (2-4 days/semester),
- online and paper-based resources
- workplace-based learning
- knowledge of learning theories and how to establish an effective learning environment in the health workplace setting
- an awareness of different models of education and the roles of the clinical, work-based and professional practice educator
- skills in various aspects of teaching including giving feedback, dealing with challenging situations and time management skills
- skills in critiquing and developing assessment items and evaluations
- effective communication skills to facilitate a students' learning
Study pathways
Students who are registered nurses and graduates from the Graduate Certificate in Health Professional Education program may apply for admission to the Master of Advanced Practice [5424] program where they will be awarded 40CP of advanced standing (towards the Health Professional Education specialisation) on the basis of their previous studies. Upon the successful completion of a further 40 credit points, they will graduate with a Master of Advanced Practice (Health Professional Education) award.
Graduates from the program may apply for admission to the Master of Human Services [5169] program where they will be awarded 40CP of advanced standing (towards the Non-specialised major) on the basis of their previous studies. Upon the successful completion of a further 40 credit points, they will graduate with a Master of Human Services award.
