Biography
Professor Brownie has close to 25 years leadership experience as a senior executive in the health, education, welfare, employment, workforce development and economic development sectors. She began her career as registered nurse and midwife and has continued to maintain active professional practice in a range of related health and educational research and policy activities. In 2009 she undertook a major clinical upgrade to expand the scope of the clinical practice. In addition, she undertakes a a steady stream of private sector, commercial, university and government sector special projects, consultancies and research activities - both on and off shore.
She is an experienced leader dedicated to participation in nursing, health, educational, workforce, community and business development roles that include significant leadership and change management mandates. She has a proven track record in establishing sound commercial and business disciplines within the public, NFP and private sectors while still retaining focus on the public mission of the organisation
In June 2003 she transferred from New Zealand to take up a seven year appointment as CEO of an Australian and New Zealand-based Specialist Medical College. During this period, she also completed a doctoral programme which researched the New Zealand experience in implementing partnership-based local development policy.
As a precursor to her doctoral studies, she holds a Bachelor of Education, a Master of Educational Administration, a Master of Health Services Management, and in 2000 was awarded an MDC Fellowship for Excellence in the New Zealand Public Service. In addition she has trained at Harvard, Stanford and Oxford Universities.
In recent times, she has engaged in senior leadership and research-based clinical education roles with the Queensland public health and university sectors. Her interests in partnership-based activities now focus on research activity, development and implementation of models of collaborative care and the enhancement of inter-professional and competency-based education and practice.
Currently she is working on an off-shore assignment as the Griffith University representative at Fatima College of Health Sciences Abu Dhabi UAE. She also holds the role of Head of School of Nursing for Griffith University enrolled Bachelor of nursing students and supporting Faculty.
