There are a number of programs at Griffith that can lead you to Medicine.
Bachelor of Biomedical Science
Gold Coast and Nathan campuses (3 years full-time)
Biomedical science helps society through the application of new scientific knowledge to the practice of medicine and healthcare. This is a challenging program that prepares graduates for careers in biomedical research and the applied health sciences and, as a pre-medical degree, is excellent for entry to graduate medicine.
Entry requirements
Applications for admission to either a Commonwealth Supported place or a Fee Paying place for this program are made through the Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre (QTAC). In the case of applicants completing year 12 in Queensland, applications are assessed on the basis of their Overall Position (OP). All other applicants are assessed on the basis of their Admission Rank.
The Admission Rank is assigned based on educational attainments including secondary school, tertiary study, vocational training, bridging or preparatory studies, and professional qualifications, work experience and approved admissions tests.
Bachelor of Medical Science (MBBS provisional entry for school-leavers)
Gold Coast and Nathan campuses (2 years full-time)
If you are a high-achieving secondary school leaver and have the commitment to study an intensive two-year degree you’ll be able to progress from this program directly into the Griffith Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery provided you achieve a GPA of at least 5.0 for the program and acheive a minimum grade of Pass in the designated course ‘Human Skills for Medicine’.
You’ll develop knowledge and skills in modern biosciences and clinical sciences, with an emphasis on their application to the development of medicine, biomedical research and healthcare services. You can also choose from a diverse range of flexible summer courses and non-science courses that allow you to broaden your knowledge base.

Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery
Gold Coast campus (4 years full-time)
This is the start of your career as a doctor. Because most of your learning will take place in small group settings, including problem-based learning tutorials, clinical skills centres and off campus healthcare service settings, the program will ensure that you develop the skills, knowledge and behaviours necessary to graduate ready to start internship and further postgraduate specialty training.
Prerequisite: Completed bachelors degree.
Entry requirements for Bachelor of Medical Science (MBBS - Provisional entry for school-leavers) graduates
Direct entry provided a GPA of at least 5.0 has been achieved and a minimum grade of pass in the designated course ‘Human Skills for Medicine’
Entry requirements for graduates of all other relevant degrees
Admission to graduate entry medicine will be determined by
- performance in a bachelors degree
- performance in the Graduate Australian Medical Schools Admissions Test (GAMSAT)
- demonstration of skills and attributes suited to a career in medicine at an interview
Application is through the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER) when you visit the ACER website to register to sit GAMSAT.
Bachelor of Biomedical Science (Honours) Accelerated
Gold Coast campus (3 years full-time)
The Bachelor of Biomedical Science (Honours) Accelerated provides the ideal way to commence your career in medical research. This degree will equip you with extensive knowledge about the human body, from the anatomical to the molecular. You will also discover what happens during disease and learn the basis of current treatments.
At the end of your first year of study, you will be able to start your own research career and complete the Bachelor of Biomedical Science (Honours) Accelerated program in just three years (instead of four).
This degree will see you teamed with internationally renowned scientists currently working within the Griffith Institute for Health and Medical Research. These talented scientists will guide you in your research studies and mentor you as your career develops.
At the completion of this degree you will be ideally placed to pursue a PhD or to seek employment. Alternatively, you may wish to pursue a career in medicine or other para-clinical professions.
