The Behavioural Basis of Health Program was established in April 2008 with Prof David Shum as its first Director. BBH is one of five Programs within the Griffith Health Institute (GHI) (formerly Griffith Institute for Health and Medical Research (GIHMR)). The goal of our program is to apply psychological knowledge and methods to understand human behaviour and promote health and emotional and psychological well-being of children, adults and families.
Achievement of this goal is supported by both basic and applied research projects. These projects focus on particular target populations and may be universal (aimed at a general population level) or more targeted (specific high risk groups). Specifically, these projects meet the criteria in the University's area of strategic investment, namely, innovation in health care.

We have about 47 members in our Program and they are located mainly at the Mt Gravatt and Gold Coast campuses of Griffith University.
One important objective of our Program is to provide high quality research training for postgraduate students. This is accomplished by fostering a stimulating and supporting research environment where students can take part in regular research seminars and discussion. In addition, the Program will provide additional support (e.g. equipment and conference attendance) to facilitate postgraduate research.
