Research Methodologist in Residence

The Research Methodologist-in-Residence offers individual and personal assistance on various research methodology related issues to postgraduate students. This service was supplied by the Association but due to voluntary student unionism, is now sponsored by the Griffith Graduate Research School.

The Research Methodologist helps research higher degree students develop research which builds towards a successful completion. Typically this includes a clear enunciation of objectives, adopting several methods of collecting and analysing data within a complementary manner, and constructing convincing arguments with the greatest chance of success. The research methodologist can also advise on a wide range of qualitative research methods, help with rhetoric, discuss confirmation seminar issues, and advise on problems with supervision. Students often find it worthwhile to confidentially discuss their research with a creative, experienced and non-judgemental colleague.

For more information on the Research Methodologist's availability and contact details, please contact the Griffith Graduate Research School.

Introducing Bill Metcalf - Research Methodologist

Bill has been a member of staff at Griffith University since 1980. He completed his PhD at Griffith in 1986, with a study on the sociology and psychology of communal living. Bill has lectured in research methods since 1980, at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels within the Faculties of Environmental Studies and Business and a number of departments throughout the University. He is the author of nine books and has edited several research publications and so has considerable experience in the publishing of research.

Bill has supervised numerous Honours, Master of Philosophy and PhD theses over the years and has served as examiner for many theses from other Universities. As well as some teaching, he is also working as a freelance researcher and is able to advise students on a broad range of methodological and rhetorical issues in terms of doing and presenting academic research.

Statistician in Residence

The Statistician-in-Residence offers individual and personal assistance on various data collection and analysis related issues to postgraduate students. This service was supplied by the Association but due to voluntary student unionism, is now sponsored by the Griffith Graduate Research School.

The Statistician in residence helps research higher degree students decide upon appropriate sample sizes and compositions, given their research questions, and to reliably collect and analyse data using the most appropriate statistical techniques. The statistician in residence also helps students interpret those results, and facilitates their reaching valid and defendable conclusions to the questions being addressed.

For more information on the Statistician's availability and contact details, please contact the Griffith Graduate Research School.
