Overview:
Business is increasingly looking for practical and sustainable business models to respond to a growing range of sustainability related challenges such as the Government's proposed Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme. Furthermore, sustainability is increasingly multidisciplinary in nature, is driving the Federal Government's agenda, and is top of mind for business and increasingly the community. Workable solutions to sustainability related issues require practical and integrated models of response across the areas of business, environment, science, law; economics and sociology are increasingly required.
The Asia Pacific Centre for Corporate Sustainability and Responsibility is a new Centre to be established in the Griffith Business School (GBS). The Centre will be highly collaborative entity, both internally and externally, with deep connections with industry, academe and government. The core structural elements of the Centre include a vibrant research culture; innovative; teaching and learning developments; industry sector and community engagement programs as well as evidence based new knowledge creation initiatives.
The role:
The Griffith Business School is seeking to appoint a suitable individual in the role of Centre Director to shape and develop the operating structure, philosophy and connectedness of the Centre. The Director will also ensure the ongoing successful positioning of the Centre as the international gateway for solutions to diverse sustainability challenges.
The Director will be required to establish an independent external advisory board as a matter of first priority. The board will play the role of independent reference for the strategies, development and ongoing governance of the Centre. The Director will be supported by a General Manager and an administrative officer as well as the wider University support services such as the research office, the enterprise office, human resources support, financial services and the legal office.
The appointment is offered for an initial three-year term, renewable for a further two years based on satisfactory performance.
The person:
- Tertiary qualified at a postgraduate level;
- Proven business development skills, combined with an ability to self-start and to work independently and with others in a multidisciplinary environment;
- Demonstrated ability to provide effective leadership in planning, developing and delivering research programs and services in the sustainability domain;
- Proven ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary environment across academic, public, private and not-for-profit sectors;
- Demonstrated ability to initiate, develop and lead collaborative research and sustainability oriented projects with industry and government;
- Demonstrated ability to write business plans to support opportunities including skills and experience in the financial and legal aspects of multi-sector projects;
- Superior communication and relationship management skills. This includes the demonstrated ability to liaise with senior colleagues and with academic staff at all levels, and to represent the University in a professional manner in all interactions with external parties;
- Well-developed and demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills;
- Demonstrated ability to deliver practical and measurable outcomes;
- Demonstrated ability to manage a diverse portfolio of projects, at various stages of commencement and development, concurrently.
