Leadership

Adopting good environmentally sustainable practices in the workplace can only happen with the support of management. In fact supervisors, team leaders and managers should take a leadership role in adopting best practice in the workplace. For example all purchasing decisions for acquiring materials and equipment to be used in operations should consider the life cycle impact on the environment.

While such things as green purchasing, energy efficiency and recycling waste are important, attention also needs to be paid to processes and procedures to see if they need to be modified to facilitate change in behaviour to reduce the impact of operations on the environment.

In addition, there is an ongoing need for training programs to educate existing and new staff in good environmentally sustainable work practices.
