Graduation ceremonies

When are ceremonies held?
Griffith University holds graduation ceremonies in July and December only. Students who finish at the end of Semester 1 graduate in July and students who finish at the end of Semester 2 graduate in December. To view graduation dates for this year, please visit the ceremony dates page.
International ceremonies: At least one international graduation ceremony is held every year (usually between August and October). Information about international ceremonies will be posted on the Graduations website as it becomes available. Griffith has previously held international ceremonies in Canada, Beijing and Taipei.
When will ceremony dates and times be confirmed?
Specific details about ceremony dates and times can only be confirmed once the preliminary numbers of graduating students have been determined which will be approximately two months before the ceremonies.

How long is the ceremony?
Graduation ceremonies last approximately one and a half to two hours depending on the number of graduating students. Please be aware all graduating students are asked to arrive two hours before the ceremony to allow sufficient time to complete the registration process which includes robing, professional photography and the official student briefing.

Ticketing

How many guest tickets can I purchase and how much do they cost?
Brisbane and Gold Coast ceremonies: There is no limit on the number of guest tickets at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre or the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre. All tickets are sold through Ticketek. To purchase tickets for Brisbane or Gold Coast ceremonies:

Logan ceremonies: Due to the smaller size of the Logan Entertainment Centre, there are restrictions on the number of guest tickets available for Logan ceremonies. The number of tickets available for purchase will vary each December. All tickets are sold through the Logan Entertainment Centre:

Are guest tickets refundable?
NO. Guest tickets are not refundable under any circumstances. We strongly advise family and friends against purchasing ceremony tickets or making travel arrangements until your graduating student has been approved to graduate.
Can I sit with my graduating student?
NO. All graduating students are required to sit together in the order that they will walk across the stage. Guests will be seated in the main auditorium.

Photography or video recording

Can I take photographs and/or video record at the ceremony?
YES. You may take photographs and/or video record the ceremony but only from your seat. Flash photography and the use of lighting equipment are not permitted inside the auditorium.
Can I purchase a recording of the ceremony?
NO. The University does not produce a recording of the event for purchase. Guests are permitted to photograph and video record the ceremony from their seats. Flash photography and the use of lighting equipment are not permitted inside the auditorium.
Will there be professional photographers at the ceremony?
YES. Silver Rose Photography will operate a complimentary sitting service at the venue before and after the ceremony but please note that the sittings will not be available during the student briefing or the ceremony. Family portraits are also available but only after the ceremony. Students will be photographed when they walk across the stage at the ceremony. Proofs of the photographs will be available on the Silver Rose Photography website approximately one week after the ceremony.
