First year advisors
In recognition of the need for a coherent and whole of university approach to enhancing the student experience, Griffith has adopted a model that focuses on providing support for students at key transition points throughout the full cycle of their student life. This model includes an emphasis on strategies for supporting and enabling staff who are key stakeholders in enhancing the student experience.
One such group of staff is the First Year Advisors. The First Year Advisor role at Griffith University has been designed to meet and grow local level activities as well as provide a coordinated approach to supporting first year students. First Year Advisors have been allocated to each undergraduate program or cluster of related programs. They are academic members of staff who understand, and are interested in, first year students, their issues and experiences.
The GIHE has a designated First Year Advisor Coordinator, Dr Lynn Burnett, who works at a University-wide level to support First Year Advisors. Further resources for First Year Advisors are being developed and will be available at the First Year Advisor website in the near future.

Numerous people have contributed to the development of this website. In particular, significant contributions and foundation work in the development, recognition and support for First Year Advisors were made by A/Prof Alf Lizzio, Joanna Peters, Vanda Cragnolini, and Professor Kerri-Lee Krause. Many thanks to each of these people as well as past and present staff at GIHE, Student Services and Central Administration Services for their contributions and ongoing support.
