Supervising RHD students
GIHE in collaboration with the Griffith Graduate Research School offers a Research Higher Degree Supervision Workshop Series for Griffith academic staff who wish to develop their expertise in effective supervision of Research Higher Degree students. The Series constitutes a suite of staff development sessions including:
- Research Higher Degree Supervision: Managing the supervisory process. This workshop is designed to help you consider ways of supporting students effectively through the entire research process from commencement of candidature through to timely completion. Highly experienced supervisors will share their practices, and participants will consider a variety of problems and strategies for solving them.
- Responsibilities of Being a Research Higher Degree Supervisor. In this workshop the Griffith Graduate Research School advises on ways to manage the administrative side of the supervisory role, from research training, candidature, scholarships, thesis examination, ethics and commercialisation, to Griffith’s processes, policies and procedures.
- Making the Most of the University’s Research Ethics Arrangements. This workshop is intended to help supervisors to negotiate the ethics approval process and to appropriately advise their students on ethical standards, University arrangements and external regulatory requirements. It will also assist all researchers who need ethics approval for research involving humans.
- Copyright Information for Teaching and Research This session will address a broad range of copyright issues relevant to academic staff and researchers, including: an overview of the basics of copyright in Australia; issues for researchers, with a particular focus on publication issues; use of copyright material for educational purposes.
Staff who complete the first three (core) workshops receive a Statement of Participation upon completion.
Registration is essential for all GIHE professional development events and staff are advised to register early to avoid disappointment. To register for any of the programs advertised, please respond to gihe-register@griffith.edu.au with your name, school and contact details.
