Admissions interview
Many Griffith Health programs use a tiered admission process, incorporating;
- Academic achievement (OP Rank)
- UMAT score
- Interview
The following is a set of interview guidelines that may assist applicants in preparing for the interview process.
Why interviews?
Interviews help Griffith assess qualities not necessarily determinable by academic achievement or UMAT such as:
- motivation
- decision making ability
- appropriate learning style
- personal management
- self-evaluation skills
- communication skills
- pro-social attitude
Interview questions
Interview questions are often scenario based and are specifically designed to determine the interviewees:
- ability to problem solve, generate hypotheses and present the information clearly and logically
- enthusiasm, realistic ideas and thoughts about what study and a career in medicine might involve
- understanding and experience of group dynamics
- personal achievements, strengths and weaknesses
- ability to empathise and provide emotional support
Interview structure
Interviews are semi-structured and conducted by a panel of trained interviewers. They are of 45 minutes duration. Panellists have no information about the interviewee other than their name.
The interview process provides an opportunity for applicants to demonstrate their personal attributes and thereby convince the panel why they should be considered for an offer above other applicants.
