University study is different from school and from what you've probably seen on TV. It's generally less structured and you'll spend fewer contact hours (i.e, time in lectures and tutorials) at uni than you did at school. Your timetable will change each semester according to the courses (subjects) you're doing.

Independence and responsibility

University study demands more independent learning through your own reading, research, online work and writing. While Griffith's approachable lecturers and tutors are always there to help you, they won't be looking over your shoulder as much as high school teachers do.

Attendance and participation are up to you and you'll probably work with Griffith's academic staff on a more adult-to-adult level. The university will communicate with you - not your parents - and you are responsible for your results.

Diversity of students and study

You'll find a very diverse group of students at uni, including mature age and international students, students from a range of backgrounds and life experiences, students with disabilities, and people at various stages of their careers.

Griffith's interdisciplinary programs mean you can work with students and staff from various disciplines on collaborative projects to take your learning into exciting and perhaps unexpected directions.

Help with the transition

Going to uni for the first time is a big step, but you'll find a wide range of services at Griffith's five campuses to make the transition hassle-free.

You'll also enjoy the cosmopolitan, stimulating and vibrant atmosphere that results when creative, committed people gather together.

Making contacts

Studying at uni puts you in touch with people who'll become important professional and personal contacts for many years. You'll be part of Griffith's alumni who are doing exciting work all over Australia and around the world.
