Pathways to Griffith

If you are not successful in obtaining a place in the Griffith program that most interests you, there are a number of "pathways" to increase your chances of gaining a future place.

Which option is right for you will depend on whether you have already completed Year 12, the type of study you are most confident about (eg. tertiary study versus secondary study), your confidence in your general academic ability, the location of an institution offering a suitable program, Austudy implications etc.

The following section explains some of the options available to you.

University Study

If you gain entry into a university program which is not your first choice, you can complete the equivalent of one year of full-time study in that program to upgrade your Rank for entry into your preferred program.

TAFE Studies

Successful completion of a minimum of the equivalent of one year of full-time study in a TAFE or other approved private college diploma or advanced diploma may sufficiently improve your rank to gain entry into your preferred university program.

Queensland Institute of Business and Technology

QIBT diplomas in commerce, information technology and hotel management are designed for people whose previous education is insufficient to allow them to proceed directly to a tertiary program.

Gold Coast and Logan residents

Residents of Gold Coast City and Logan City, and the Tweed, Beaudesert and Redland Shires who have not previously been to a university will be given some preference in the allocation of places at the Gold Coast and Logan campuses.

Unireach program

The Unireach program aims to give students at selected Brisbane and Gold Coast secondary schools assistance in improving their academic performance to gain entry to Griffith. Students are selected with the support of principals, teachers and guidance officers.

Indigenous Australians

Griffith University promotes the participation of Indigenous Australians in the pursuit of achieving tertiary qualifications. The Gumurrii centre is present on all five campuses.

Open University Australia

Open University Australia offers everyone in Australia the opportunity to study university courses for credit towards a degree. There is no entry requirement and no prerequisites for registration with Open University Australia.

External Senior

External senior subjects can be undertaken by people who have not previously completed senior secondary studies and may be used in conjunction with other achievements or other experiences to gain admission to Griffith University.

Combined Mode

If you have completed senior and obtained either an OP or a TE score, you may choose to study up to four (4) external senior subjects to upgrade your rank.

Certificate of Adult Tertiary Preparation

It is especially suitable for adults who have been away from formal education for some time, including mature age applicants who have not previously completed senior secondary studies.
