Research training and scholarships
The Australian Rivers Institute was established in 2006 to provide a focus for river, catchment and coastal research and education, and builds on the University's long-standing reputation in environmental science. The Institute's research is focused around six major themes: Catchment and River Processes; Coastal and Estuarine Processes, Water Allocation and Environmental Flows; Aquatic Biodiversity and Conservation; Restoration Science; and Monitoring and Assessment.
Postgraduate students receive significant support for field and laboratory research and funding for conference travel and other training is available. The Institute offers a range of well-equipped laboratories and field equipment.
The Institute will be offering scholarship opportunities for students considering a Research Higher Degree (Masters and PhD) or Honours in 2008/2009.

PhD top-up stipends
- Scholarships will be offered to graduates enrolled at Griffith University in 2009. You must specify that you are applying for an Australian Rivers Institute top-up in your application
