The genetic basis of plumage morph variation in the Australian magpie, Gymnorhina tibicen

Description

My research is looking at the genetic basis of plumage variation in the Australian magpie, Gymnorhina tibicen. I will use a number of candidate genes involved in plumage variation in other birds, together with existing mitochondrial DNA data to examine phylogeographic patterns, investigate the patterns of inheritance of plumage morphs and explore the role local selection processes may play in the maintenance of these morphs.
