Thesis
Influence of flow seasonality on the recruitment ecology of fishes from Wet Tropics rivers of Northern Australia.
Description
Australia’s freshwater fishes are well represented in the rivers of the Wet Tropics Bioregion yet fundamental knowledge about the spatial and temporal dynamics of their recruitment in these systems and the factors that impinge on the survival and growth of their young are poorly understood.  My PhD examines the response of fish recruitment to the gradient of flow conditions displayed in Wet Tropics rivers.  The composition and size structure of the larval fish assemblage is compared in five rivers (Herbert, Tully, Mulgrave, Daintree and Endeavour) across a gradient of flow and habitat conditions.  This research will build on our knowledge of fish recruitment and its relationship with the flow regime of the Wet Tropics rivers and will highlight the importance of maintaining natural flows in managing riverine fishes.
