- Viral influence on the Cyanobacterium Microcystis aeruginosa
- Description
- Cyanobacteria are photosynthetic bacteria that support many aquatic food webs. However, when in bloom, they are potentially toxic and can be destructive to subsequent heterotrophic processes. Although the affects of eutrophication on bloom potential are now well understood, the role of cyanophage is unknown. This research is focusing on understanding the relationship between a cyanobacterium and cyanophage in the context of bloom.
